"Ooz" by John "Jack" Hammack (NYC/San Fran/Portland, 1925-1990), oil/artist board, signed, titled and dated 1952, unframed - 5 3/4" x 17 1/2"
Hammack was a prolific painter based in the Pacific Northwest, and was taught in the 1950s by renown artist Louis Bunce. Hammack spent time in NYC with artists such as Jackson Pollack, Robert Motherwell and Franz Kline. He showed at many galleries in the 1940s-1960s, including shows in NYC, San Francisco and Seattle before eventually settling in the Portland area. After his passing, his family discovered a large hidden cache of his work in the rafters and under the floorboards of his artist studio. This painting comes from that cache.
