Emily Lowe was born into New York high society and studied at Columbia College, New School of Social Research, the Art Students League, and the Ecole de Beaux Arts in Paris. She married Joe Lowe, who made Popsicles famous after purchasing the rights to the product. Together the Lowes underwrote the construction of the Lowe Museum at the University of Miami, the Lowe Art Center at Syracuse University and the Emily Lowe Gallery at Hofstra University.
