Born in Cuba, Rivero and his family left Cuba in 1970 and lived for five years in Madrid, Spain, eventually moving to California. Essentially a self-taught artist, Rivero's painting has been influenced by the likes of Picasso and Martano Rodriguez. He studied paitning with California impressionist painter Michael Dancer and California expressionist painter Neil Nagy.
