Etting was a painter, sculptor, filmmaker, and a member of Philadelphia's elite Main Line Society. A Harvard graduate, he studied with artist Andre Lhote. In WW2 he served in psychological warfare division of the Office of War Information. He corroborated with Orson Wells in recording the liberation of Paris.
