Graphite watercolor study by Emlen Etting (Philadelphia, 1905-1993) for a larger work based on Icarus fable, 8"x10 3/4". 

 

Etting was a painter, sculptor, filmmaker, and a member of Philadelphia's elite Main Line Society. A Harvard graduate, he served in the psychological warfare division of the Office of War Information during WW2. He corroborated with Orson Wells to record the liberation of Paris.
