Calogero was born in Catania, Sicily. He showed passion for drawing and painting as a teenager and he attended the Liceo Artistico in the nearby city of Etna. He continued his studies in 1947 by attending painting classes at the Ecole Des Beaux Arts in Paris, France. By the 1950’s his Parisian exhibitions were followed by American exhibitions in New York and Los Angeles and later on in Japan and Italian art galleries. In 1957 he received the Great Silver Medal in Paris.
