Rawlinson was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and is an avid artist and art teacher. The first years of Rawlinson's career concentrated on medical illustration. By 1973, Rawlinson had committed full-time to fine art, concentrating primarily on the watercolor medium. Rawlinson served many years on the faculty at Memphis College of Art, and, in a return to medical illustration roots, assisted in designing a pre professional degree program in Biomedical Communications at the University of Memphis. Upon retirement, Rawlinson, and his wife, moved to New Orleans and opened a gallery in the historic French Quarter. The gallery was moved to Germantown, TN in 1999.
